26 Apr 19: Heal Your Body and Your Body Image by Intuitively Eating With Elizabeth Harris
Have you tried every diet and are not sure what to do next?
Elizabeth Harris is joining me to talk about what to do when you are struggling with your diet, managing body image, and understanding what your body needs when it needs it.
Elizabeth Harris, the owner of Elizabeth Harris Nutrition and Wellness, is a registered dietitian, certified Intuitive Eating counselor, and certified nutrition coach. She helps chronic dieters stop swinging between restricting and overeating by showing them how to eat what they love without stress or guilt. Elizabeth helps you shift the focus from weight to wellbeing with enjoyable health-promoting behaviors and body image healing.
Unlike other nutrition programs that focus on what not to do or which foods to eliminate, restrict, or avoid, Elizabeth highlights all the foods and habits you can ADD to your routines to reach your goals while making nutrition simple, satisfying, and sustainable. She’s passionate about putting the pleasure and fun back into nutrition and food because you’ve got better things to do than count carbs or tally calories.
Elizabeth holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition, Healthspan, and Longevity from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Russian language and Slavic and East European Studies from the University of Connecticut. In her spare time, you’ll find her keeping backyard bees, gardening, reading voraciously, and traveling the world with her husband and three teenagers—hitting every available farmers’ market along the way.
In Today’s Episode We Discuss:
- Shifting our mindset from weight loss to wellbeing
- Battling body image
- What intuitive eating is all about
- Debunking common nutrition messages
- How your body reacts when you don’t eat enough food or cut foods out
- What happens when you aren’t mindful when you are eating
- How to create visually appealing meals and make foods more enjoyable
I love that Elizabeth talks about how food is meant to be pleasurable and that there’s nothing wrong with eating it and enjoying it. Of course, it provides nourishment and that should always be considered, but navigating that shouldn’t be overwhelming.
If the current diet that you’re working with is stressing you out, it’s not the right diet for you! It will cause chronic stress, take a toll on your body, and end up doing more harm than good.
I encourage you to always eat intuitively and take note of how your body feels when you eat certain foods. If you have questions for Elizabeth about this, definitely reach out to her!
