115: Resetting Your Nervous System to Heal from Trauma with Jamie McCoy

Resetting Your Nervous System to Heal from Trauma with Jamie McCoy

Are you recovering from trauma?

In some cases, trauma can put your body and nervous system into a “freeze” state that can be hard to come out of. However, it’s important that you do so that you can begin to heal.

In this episode of The Dr. Kinney Show, I sat down with Jamie McCoy, a trauma therapist, to talk about the connection between trauma and the nervous system. She works a lot with trauma healing and resetting your nervous system and I am excited to dive into the topic with her today.

Jamie McCoy is a licensed therapist & trauma coach for over 10 years. She specializes in the biology of trauma and teaches people how to regulate their nervous system using somatic healing & holistic health education.

She’s passionate about empowering people to master their stress physiology so they can move from living in survival mode to becoming physically & emotionally resilient.

We don’t need to demonize what we are going through or the feelings that we are having. You can teach your nervous system that it’s safe to feel whatever arises so that you can come out of that “freeze” state and begin to recover.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • The connection between trauma and the nervous system
  • The freeze mode your body can go into
  • Your stress hormones
  • Why we feel numb
  • The first steps to healing
  • How it feels when you come out of the “freeze” state
  • Why a third party is so helpful while healing
  • Breathwork and other simple practices during treatment

I hope you enjoyed this conversation with Jamie! It’s so important to train your system to know that it can be safe to feel those feelings, and once you learn how to do that, it’s incredibly empowering.

Working with someone who has experience with this type of nervous system resetting is essential so that you can get the support you need during the process.
