10 Oct 95: What You Need To Know About SIBO with Dr. Kinney
Have you ever heard of SIBO?
SIBO stands for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and I have seen a major increase in the number of patients who come in with this in the last year. It’s a condition where specific types of bacteria will overgrow in the small intestine. The typical type that we see the most causes a large amount of bloating.
In this episode of The Dr. Kinney Show, I’m sharing what this condition is, the symptoms to watch for, and how to treat it. Stress is the number one cause of SIBO, so it’s so important to manage your stress. You might also find that you’re struggling with this condition if you are exercising too much.
Spending a lot of time in the parasympathetic state is the best way to improve this condition but there are some other ways as well. We have to work on the nervous system and digestive system at the same time to get to the root of the problem, address the terrain, and calm your nervous system down.
In Today’s Episode We Discuss:
- What SIBO is
- The good bacteria that are usually present in your gut
- The PH level of our intestine and stomach and what happens when it changes
- The impact of stress on your PH
- How too much exercise can cause SIBO
- How we test for SIBO
- The importance of addressing the terrain
- Herbal protocols
If you’re dealing with really chronic bloating that is severe and painful and you’re struggling with what to do, it might be good to get a hydrogen or methane breath test to see what’s going on. It’s important to work with a practitioner who is well-versed with SIBO. Naturopathic or functional medicine doctors would be great for this.
